Buzău County Museum, a cultural, art and research institution operating under the authority of the Buzău County Council, announces the organization of the international group exhibition "About Portraits #2", from January 28 to February 28, 2025. The exhibition brings together works by artists from the United States of America (Annette Lemieux and Doug Winter), the Republic of North Macedonia (Mice Jankulovski), Germany (Patrizia Casagrande), Vietnam (Minh Nguyêt), Ukraine (Natalia Revoniuk) and Romania (Petru Lucaci, Vladimir Păun Vrapciu, George Stanciu, Velnicescu Mioara Magelonia, Liusic Vrapciu). The curators of the exhibition are Alexandru Anghel (Buzău County Museum, Romania) and Mario Perez Rodriguez (Venezuela). This exhibition project, presented at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Venice (November 2024) and at the Osten Biennial (Republic of North Macedonia) (December 2024), is part of an international program of artistic research on the general theme of the portrait. The group initiative, now in its third exhibition at the Buzău County Museum, aims to be a dialogue on the study of the human figure, bringing together artists from different geographical areas, but also from different generations. The exhibited works are represented by graphics, painting, photographic art and video art. “About Portraits #2” is part of the series of international artistic exhibition events that the Buzău County Museum presented to the Buzău public. This concern of our museum, started in 2019, was materialized through events that primarily attracted the public of Buzău, but not only: Unexpected Dali (2020-2021), Katsushika Hokusai and his circle. Masterpieces of Japanese Surimono – Hidden Beauty (2022), Praise to the Black (2022), People of the OMO Valley-Ethiopia (2024-2025). Works by foreign artists have ennobled the spaces of the Buzău County Museum and have attracted the public on several occasions, both in solo exhibitions and in group or collection exhibitions. Portraiture is unique to any of the art genres, marking the intersection between portrait, biography and history. It is more than a work of art in itself. When people look at a portrait, they have the perception of meeting another person, said Alison Smith, chief curator at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Buzău Museum of Archaeology, History and Art, Room No. 14, 2nd Floor.
